Luke and Emma
Luke: “Around five years ago I’d been through a not-so-nice breakup with a long-term girlfriend who I’d met at University. Although I’d seen a few people for short periods of time, I’d really been looking for the right person ever since. I had tried going on nights out with friends and different things like cookery courses to try and meet people but I found it really hard to find someone who I really had things in common with. You could say I’d completely lost faith! I had seen the advert but didn’t really think that internet dating was for me.
After a while my friends and family, especially my Mum, kept on telling me I should try eHarmony. I told myself I wouldn’t and didn’t fancy looking online at all, but in the end I decided to have a look at the site although I really didn’t think it would work. I’m so glad I persevered with the online form but it did take a while and made me think about who I was and what I wanted.
I messaged Emma as soon as I saw her profile to say I liked her but had no response. I later found out that she thought I lived too far away from her. We did live a 45-50 minute drive from each other but Emma sounded nice so it didn’t seem like too much of a problem to me. I wasn’t expecting to meet someone right on my doorstep.
A few days later I’d still received no response, so I figured I’d give it another go and sent Emma another message. Thankfully she replied and we started talking via email. We arranged to meet near where Emma lived in a lovely country pub. We talked for about four hours and it seemed like we knew each other really well. We arranged to go out near where I lived for our second date and then carried on back and forward for months.
I proposed to Emma at the place we first met. She said yes of course and we are getting married in May 2012. A huge thank you to eHarmony - it really does bring couples together.”
Emma: “I had been on my own as a single mum for two years after a ten-year relationship and felt ready to start dating again. I was not always able to go out and felt going into town on a Friday or Saturday night wasn’t really the right place to meet someone. I had thought about online dating but wasn’t sure, until a friend said I should go for it. She helped me go through some of the questions and then I continued on my own the next day. I think Luke emailed not long after I registered but I wasn’t sure about the distance, although his profile did seem nice.
So I didn’t respond straight away but when I received his second message I thought I’d give him a chance and we soon became good friends via email and text. I was very nervous when we first met but he made me feel at ease and we just hit it off straight away with lots and lots to talk about. Luke met my daughter four weeks later and everything instantly fit into place (even if she was a bit wary at first because Luke is so tall)! Luke started to spend a lot of time with us both.
When Luke asked me to marry him and move to his town it was just perfect and we can’t wait for our wedding in May.”
